About the Warm Home Discount
The Warm Home Discount scheme provides eligible households with a £150 discount on their electricity bill during the winter months. The scheme has been extended to run until 2030/31 and now supports around 6 million households across the UK.
Who Qualifies?
You may be eligible if you:
- Receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (automatic qualification)
- Meet the broader group criteria based on income and household circumstances
- Have a prepayment or credit electricity meter
- Live in England, Scotland, or Wales
How It Works
If you qualify, you'll receive a £150 credit automatically applied to your electricity account between October and March. You don't need to apply if you receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.
For the broader group, applications typically open in August each year. Your energy supplier will contact you directly if you're eligible.
Important Notes
- The discount applies to your electricity bill only, not gas
- You can only receive the discount once per winter
- If you have a dual fuel account, the discount still only applies to the electricity portion
- The scheme runs from October to March each year
